Hydrotherapy originates from the Latin words
"hydra" meaning water & "therapia" meaning healing.

Hydrotherapy has been used for thousands of years. The Greeks and Romans used this for all sorts of conditions. Hydrotherapy puts together three of nature's strongest forces, water, heat and air.

differences between hot tubs and spa's... 

A hot tub originally was a round wooden tub shaped like a barrel. These became more and more popular in the 1960's. They were very simple, basically only holding hot water and only enough room for one or two people at a time.

As this part of the leisure industry began to increase, hot tub shells were made out of fibreglass or thermoplastics. The name then changed to Spa, this differentiated them form the wooden type
A lot of spa's/hot tubs we see today have many different layers (for thermal properties) before usually being finished by an acrylic shell, although the traditional hot tub is all wood.

Spas/ Hot tubs bring together buoyancy, massage and heat.
 Buoyancy: The water decreases your body weight by 85-90% this releases the pressure form your joints and muscles. Moving around becomes easier and the sensation of weightlessness is very relaxing.
 Massage: The pressurised water and air that is sent through the directional jets eases muscle tension and soreness. This rhythmic pressure increases circulation and intern increases the healing process of your own body.

Heat: Your body's blood flow increases due to the warm water this simulates endorphins (endorphins are the bodies own natural killers). With increased blood flow there is an increase in circulation of toxins, the body then replaces oxygen and natural nutrients. Also antibodies are stimulated.
